5. Why the UK is a Great Place to Grow a Digital Advice or Fintech business
This session will cover the market dynamics in the UK that make it appealing for new advice firms, including: How the UK regulator positively embraces Digital Advice and Fintech firms; why the country is suffering from a major shortage of financial advisers; the size of the UK Advice gap;
the extent of support for Fintech from HM Treasury.
A FinTech evangelist who passionately believes that technology can help consumers take better financial decisions and improve the overall quality of their lives. Having previously worked for an insurance company and as a financial adviser, since 1995 Ian has headed up The Finance & Technology Research Centre.
Current projects include creating a benchmarking process through which consumers can better understand what different digital financial advice services offer, designing supplier selection processes for digital advice and analysing the global evolution of these services and the related regulation.
In September HM Treasury appointed Ian as one of two independent advisers to their Pension Dashboard Steering group. A project which aims to enable any UK retirement saver to be able to access an aggregated view of information on all their pensions via multiple services. It is a parallel project to UK Open Banking which will deliver the British solutions to the requirements of PSD2.
